What does the Bible say about the altar?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that there is only one true altar by which sinners can come to God, which is Jesus Christ.

In the Old Testament, altars were constructed as places of sacrifice for worshipers to come before God, symbolizing the only means of approach to Him. The physical altar made of shittim wood, overlaid with brass, pointed to the ultimate sacrifice of Christ. He is both the altar and the sacrifice, fulfilling all the symbolic meanings behind the Old Testament sacrifices. Hebrews 13:10 clarifies that believers now have a spiritual altar in Christ that is not visible or accessible in a physical sense—only faith in Him grants access to God.
