What does the Bible say about the barrier between us and God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that our iniquities separate us from God, and only through Christ can this barrier be removed (Isaiah 59:2).

Isaiah 59:2 states that 'your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.' This highlights that sin creates a separation from God, preventing us from having a relationship with Him. The good news is that God provides a means of reconciliation through Jesus Christ, our intercessor and surety. He bore our sins, making it possible for us to have direct access to the Father, a reality confirmed by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
