What does the Bible say about the believer's relationship with sin?

Answered in 1 source

Believers are no longer slaves to sin but are free to serve righteousness because of God's work in them.

The relationship of believers to sin is fundamentally transformed through the grace of God. As Paul states in Romans 6:17-18, we were once servants of sin, but now, having been set free, we become servants of righteousness. This transformation signifies that true believers can no longer treat sin lightly; they recognize the serious implications of their actions and grow in their desire to live in obedience to God. The Spirit of God indwelling them enables a new nature that seeks to honor God rather than succumb to sin, revealing the work of grace in their lives.
