What does the Bible say about the benefits of affliction?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that affliction serves to deepen our prayer life, draw our hearts towards God, and demonstrate the reality of His grace in our lives.

The Scriptures recognize affliction as a means through which God works for the good of His people. Afflictions can awaken us to our need for God's help and reinforce our dependence upon Him. For example, during times of trouble, believers are encouraged to call upon the Lord, reminding us of His promises in distress (Psalm 50:15). Moreover, affliction humbles us, reminding us of the vanity of earthly things and fostering a longing for our true inheritance in heaven (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). Therefore, while difficulties may seem burdensome, they are often rich with the promise of spiritual growth and divine support.
