What does the Bible say about the bitterness of Marah?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that the waters of Marah were bitter due to sin, representing human nature in need of God's grace.

In Exodus 15, the Israelites encountered bitter waters at Marah after their miraculous escape from Egyptian bondage. This bitterness symbolizes the reality of sin which taints our existence. Prior to sin entering the world, all creation was good and pure, but the fall introduced corruption. Just as the waters of Marah were undrinkable, so too is human nature without the grace of God. It takes divine intervention—illustrated by God using a tree to sweeten the waters—for us to be made whole and to experience the sweetness of redemption through Christ.
