What does the Bible say about the covenant between God and Israel?

In Exodus 19-24, we see God establishing His covenant with the Israelites after bringing them out of Egypt. This covenant includes the giving of the Ten Commandments, written on stone tablets, which served as the moral law for the nation. The covenant highlighted God's sovereignty and the need for His people to follow His decrees in a chaotic time when they had no earthly king.
