What does the Bible say about the existence of pain?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that pain exists as a consequence of sin and rebellion against God, beginning with the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:17-19).

According to Scripture, pain and suffering exist due to the fall of man and the subsequent curse placed upon creation. In Genesis 3:17-19, God informs Adam that because of his disobedience, the ground is cursed and life will be filled with toil and pain. Job 14 reflects this reality, asserting that man who is born of woman lives only a few days filled with trouble. The pervasive nature of pain in the world is linked to mankind's rebellion against God, which brought sin and death into His creation. This understanding invites believers to view suffering in light of God's sovereignty, recognizing that all things work ultimately for His glory and our good (Romans 8:28).
