What does the Bible say about the first and the second covenant?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that God takes away the first covenant to establish the second, which is in Christ.

In Hebrews 10:9, it states, 'He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.' This highlights the transition from the Old Covenant, characterized by the Law and ceremonial sacrifices, to the New Covenant established through Jesus Christ. The first covenant was a shadow, a preparation for the ultimate fulfillment found in Christ, who is our perfect high priest and sacrifice. The Old Covenant served as a tutor to bring us to Christ, but once Christ was revealed, the need for the first was removed, as its purpose was fulfilled in Him. Thus, we are not under the ceremonial law anymore, but under the grace of the New Covenant in Christ.
