What does the Bible say about the heart and hands in relation to defilement?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that it's not what goes into a person's mouth that defiles them, but what comes out from the heart (Matthew 15:11).

In Matthew 15:18-19, Jesus clearly states that the things which come out of the mouth originate from the heart, and these things defile a person. He emphasizes that moral failures, such as evil thoughts, murders, and other sinful actions, arise from the inner man. This teaching stands in stark contrast to the external rituals and traditions upheld by the Pharisees, who prioritizing clean hands over a pure heart. The essence of Christ's message is that true defilement comes from within and cannot be remedied by mere outward observance.
