What does the Bible say about the heart's role in defilement?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that it is not what enters the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes from the heart (Matthew 15:18).

According to Matthew 15:18-20, the source of all defilement is the heart of man. Jesus makes it clear that it is not the physical act of eating that defiles an individual, but the sinful thoughts and actions that originate from the heart. Evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, and blasphemies come from within. This teaching underscores the importance of having a pure and clean heart before God, as outward actions alone cannot achieve true righteousness.
