What does the Bible say about the holiness of believers?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that believers' holiness is rooted in Christ, our righteousness, and not in personal progress.

According to the Scriptures, particularly in John 17, believers are declared holy in Christ. This means that our righteousness and holiness are not based on our personal sanctification but rather on the finished work of Christ. The sanctification spoken of in the Bible reflects our growth in understanding and knowledge of what Christ has done for us rather than an increase in our personal holiness. In Him, we are complete and perfect, not subject to condemnation, as Romans 8:1 declares, 'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.' Thus, true holiness comes from being united with Christ, recognized as saints in Him rather than being dependent on our own efforts.
