What does the Bible say about the image of God in humanity?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that humanity was created in the image of God, but that image was defiled by sin.

According to Genesis 1:26-27, God created man in His image, which originally meant purity, holiness, and righteousness. However, after the fall in Genesis 3, humanity lost that image, becoming corrupted and unable to commune with God. Psalm 73:20 highlights the seriousness of this lost image, stating that God will despise the image of those who come into His presence unholy and unrighteous. The degradation of man's original image has left humanity spiritually dead and separated from God, illustrating the depths of human depravity inherited from Adam.
