What does the Bible say about the importance of relying on Christ?

Throughout scripture, especially in John's Gospel, we see that relying on Christ is fundamental for salvation and spiritual growth. In John 21, the disciples, led by Peter, return to fishing, relying on their own abilities, which leads to failure.
