What does the Bible say about the law's dominion over man?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives, and it no longer applies once he is dead (Romans 7:1-2).

In Romans 7, the Apostle Paul explains that the law retains authority over a person only while they are alive. He illustrates this with the example of marriage; a woman is bound to her husband until he dies, after which she is free to remarry (Romans 7:2). This signifies that when a person dies, they are no longer obligated to follow the law. However, the law itself remains holy and just, and it idealizes perfection. Death liberates one from the law's demands, showing the necessity of union with Christ's death for believers to be considered free from the law's dominion.
