What does the Bible say about the Levitical priesthood?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that the Levitical priesthood could not achieve perfection or bring about true justification before God.

The Levitical priesthood was instituted by God to serve as a temporary means of approaching Him, providing a shadow of the greater reality found in Christ. As Hebrews 7:11 states, if perfection could have come from the Levitical priesthood, there would be no need for another priest from the order of Melchizedek. However, the law and the sacrifices associated with it were ultimately incapable of making anyone perfect, as reiterated in Hebrews 10:1-4, which explains that the sacrifices could not take away sins and had to be repeated annually. Hence, the priesthood of Aaron was insufficient, confirming the necessity for Christ's superior priesthood, which is founded in His eternal power and effectiveness.
