What does the Bible say about the nature of sin and believers?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that while believers will sin, they do not persist in a lifestyle of sin as a characteristic of their new nature in Christ.

According to 1 John 3:6-9, the nature of believers has changed; they do not live in continual sin. While believers still struggle with sin, their inclination is no longer towards a lifestyle characterized by unrepentant sin. Instead, the Holy Spirit indwells them, leading to a genuine desire for holiness and obedience. As children of God, their identity now reflects Christ’s righteousness. This transformation signifies evidence of regeneration — a key aspect of Reformed theology which asserts grace’s power to change a sinner’s heart and actions.
