What does the Bible say about the necessity of a high priest?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible reveals that humanity has a profound need for a high priest to mediate between them and God due to sin.

The necessity of a high priest is underscored throughout Scripture, indicating man’s essential need for a mediator. In the beginning, man had communion with God and did not require a high priest. However, after the fall and the ensuing separation from God caused by sin, humanity could no longer reconcile themselves to God. As Romans 3:23 affirms, ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ This separation birthed a need for someone to mediate and reconcile. The Old Testament sacrificial system foreshadowed this need, pointing toward a greater High Priest to come, who would offer Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for sin.
