What does the Bible say about the necessity of love?

In 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul states that without love, any abilities or gifts we possess are meaningless. He argues that love is the essence of God’s nature and the evidence of being born of God. Paul eloquently expresses that if we speak in tongues or possess prophetic gifts but lack the love of God, we are merely making noise.
