What does the Bible say about the need for righteousness?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that we are all sinners and cannot achieve righteousness on our own, driving us to seek Christ for salvation.

In the Bible, it is made clear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The story of David fleeing from Saul illustrates our desperate need for righteousness. Just as David recognized his need and sought provision from Ahimelech, so too must we realize that we have no righteousness of our own. God reveals our condemnation and drives us to Christ, who is our righteousness and the true high priest (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our works can never suffice to bring us into right standing before God, emphasizing the importance of God's grace and the need for Christ's redemptive work for our salvation.
