What does the Bible say about the perseverance of the saints?

Answered in 30 sources

The Bible teaches that all true believers are kept in the way until glorification due to God's divine purpose, Christ's atoning death, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and Christ's intercession.

The perseverance of the saints is fundamentally tied to God's covenantal commitment as outlined in Scripture. According to the Bible, true believers are preserved in their faith and obedience because of several key truths: first, God's divine purpose in election ensures that those marked for salvation will not only be brought into the path of life but also kept in it until they are finally glorified (Ephesians 1:4-5). Secondly, the death of Christ is significant in that He did not merely die to make salvation possible but secured the salvation of all who were given to Him by God (Romans 8:34). Furthermore, the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit assures believers that once they are sealed, they will remain so until glorification (Ephesians 4:30). Lastly, the intercessory work of Christ at the right hand of God reinforces the certainty of the believer's perseverance (Hebrews 7:25). Thus, all these elements work together to ensure that the true believer will persevere to the end.
