What does the Bible say about the purpose of Scripture?

Answered in 17 sources

The Bible is a declaration of God's salvific plan for His redeemed people, revealing the effectual salvation accomplished through Christ.

The purpose of Scripture is to communicate God's declaration of salvation to His redeemed and justified people. As outlined in the sermon, all of Scripture is centered around the salvation that was accomplished in Jesus Christ for God's glory. It serves not as a manual for how to live but as a revelation of the grace extended to the elect, highlighting the efficacy of Christ's sacrifice, which was predetermined before time. The role of Scripture is to continually reinforce this message of salvation, guiding believers through doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness, which ultimately points to our need for righteousness found solely in Christ.
