What does the Bible say about the purpose of trials?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that trials are used by God to prove our faith and to keep us looking to Christ.

According to James 1:2-4, believers are to consider it pure joy when facing trials because these trials produce perseverance, which in turn leads to spiritual maturity. These difficulties are not random; they come from God to refine our faith and deepen our reliance on Him. They are part of God's providence that aims to strengthen our character and embed our hope more firmly in Christ, who is our ultimate source of strength.
