What does the Bible say about the reasons for sickness?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that sickness is a consequence of sin and can serve to draw us closer to Christ.

The Bible indicates that the primary reason for sickness is the presence of sin in the world. All humans are born with a sinful nature, and this inherent sin leads to both spiritual and physical death. However, for believers, sickness and suffering can serve a greater purpose: they can remind us of our dependence on Christ as our only source of salvation and healing. In Luke 4, we see Jesus healing the sick, illustrating that He is our ultimate remedy for both physical ailments and spiritual decay. Thus, while sickness is a result of the fallen world, it also serves to draw God’s people closer to Christ and to teach them to rely on Him for everything.
