What does the Bible say about the rebuilding of the temple in Ezra?

Answered in 1 source

Ezra recounts the divine call and provisions for rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile.

In the book of Ezra, the rebuilding of the temple is initiated by God stirring the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia. This act fulfills the prophecy of Jeremiah concerning the restoration of Israel. Cyrus provides a decree allowing the Israelites to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the house of the Lord, demonstrating God's sovereignty over nations and his faithfulness to his promises. Ezra 1:1-3 highlights that the Lord God of heaven charged Cyrus to build Him a house in Jerusalem. The provisions for this restoration included not only the return of the exiles but also the encouragement and resources provided by both the Persians and the people themselves, as emphasized in Ezra 1:6, where neighbors supported the returning Jews with silver and gold.
