What does the Bible say about the relationship between Christians and government?
Answered in 1 source
Christians are called to obey civil authorities as ordained by God, except when those authorities contradict the message of the gospel.
The Bible teaches that civil authorities are established by God for our good and that Christians must be subject to them. Romans 13:1 states, 'Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers, for there is no power but of God.' This means resisting civil authority is equivalent to resisting God. However, this obedience is limited; we must not allow earthly authorities to dictate what we preach or the core tenets of our faith. Our allegiance ultimately lies with God, and as we navigate our dual citizenship in both the Kingdom of God and the earthly realm, we are to adorn the teachings of grace through our conduct as upstanding citizens.
