What does the Bible say about the remnant being saved?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible indicates that only a remnant of God's people shall be saved, despite many making a profession of faith.

The Scriptures reveal a consistent theme that a remnant will be saved. In Romans 9:27-28, Paul cites Isaiah, stating that although Israel's children are as numerous as the sand of the sea, only a remnant will be saved. This serves as a serious reminder that a bulk of professing believers may not truly possess faith. Historic Reformed theology emphasizes that God's purpose in salvation is sovereign, and He has chosen a particular people for Himself, ensuring that the work He begins will be completed (Philippians 1:6). Just as the Israelites during their exodus faced many adversities but only a few entered the promised land, so today we must be careful not to fall into complacency, assuming that mere association with a believer would suffice for salvation.
