What does the Bible say about the righteousness of God?

Answered in 24 sources

The Bible reveals that God's righteousness is fully embodied in Christ, who justly justifies sinners by accepting the imputation of sin to Himself.

The Bible teaches that God's righteousness is realized in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Specifically, in Romans 1:17, we learn that the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. This means that true righteousness is not something we can achieve through our own merit, but rather it is a gift from God, granted through faith in Christ. As the sermon discusses, Christ, being perfectly righteous and fulfilling the law, takes on the sin debt of His people, allowing God to remain just while justifying the ungodly. The imputation of our sins to Christ and His righteousness to us exemplifies this divine exchange, signifying that believers are truly righteous in God’s sight, not because of anything in us but solely because of Christ's finished work.
