What does the Bible say about the role of a watchman?

Answered in 6 sources

The Bible describes a watchman as a divinely appointed individual responsible for warning God's people about danger and delivering His message faithfully.

In Ezekiel 33:7-9, God appoints Ezekiel as a watchman over the house of Israel, highlighting the serious responsibility of delivering God's word to the people. This role extends to modern-day ministers who are seen as watchmen over the spiritual Israel, the Church. They are tasked with listening to the word of the Lord and warning the people of spiritual dangers. The watchman must take this responsibility seriously, as the blood of the people will be required at their hand if they fail to deliver God’s message. The essence of the watchman's role is to be a faithful messenger who acts on God's behalf to guide, warn, and lead God's people towards safety and salvation through Jesus Christ.
