What does the Bible say about the role of Satan in the world?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible describes Satan as a defeated foe who actively works to oppose God's people, but ultimately has no power over those who belong to Christ.

Satan is often referred to as the great adversary in Scripture, particularly in Revelation 12. He is depicted as a defeated enemy who seeks to accuse God's people and thwart God's plans. Despite his relentless efforts during various periods of history, including the birth of Christ, Satan's power is limited by God's sovereignty. According to Revelation 12:10, he is the 'accuser of our brethren' who has been cast down, which affirms that he cannot hold sway over the elect because of the justification provided by Christ. The ultimate victory of Christ over sin and death means that believers are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and that Satan's schemes are rendered ineffective against those who are secured in Christ.
