What does the Bible say about the serpent in Numbers 21?

Answered in 1 source

The serpent in Numbers 21 represents God's provision for salvation, symbolizing Christ lifted on the cross.

In Numbers 21, the people of Israel were bitten by serpents as a consequence of their sin against God. The Lord instructed Moses to create a brass serpent and lift it upon a pole, where those who looked upon it in faith would be healed. This act foreshadows the saving work of Christ, who was lifted up on the cross to provide eternal life for all who believe in Him. Just as the Israelites looked in faith to the serpent to be saved from physical death, believers look to Christ to be saved from spiritual death.
