What does the Bible say about the significance of Old Testament sacrifices?

Answered in 1 source

The Old Testament sacrifices foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

In Leviticus, the animal sacrifices served as types and shadows that pointed to the person of Jesus Christ, the true High Priest. As we see in Hebrews, these sacrifices could not produce actual righteousness but instead were symbolic reminders of the coming Redeemer. They exemplified the desperate need for a Savior, which was fulfilled in Jesus, who is described as our righteousness. Therefore, Old Testament sacrifices highlight our need for grace and anticipate Christ's atoning work.
