What does the Bible say about the significance of the temple?

Answered in 4 sources

The Bible indicates that the temple was a representation of God's dwelling among His people, ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

The temple signifies God's presence and His intent to dwell among His people. In 1 Kings 8, Solomon acknowledges that although he built a grand temple, God cannot be contained by any physical structure, as stated in verse 27: 'Behold, the heaven, and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee.' This reflects the reality that Jesus Christ is the ultimate fulfillment of the temple, as all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him. The temple served as a foreshadowing of Christ, the true dwelling place of God with humanity.
