What does the Bible say about the signs of Christ's authority?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that an evil generation seeks signs, but Christ’s resurrection is the only sign needed for faith (Matthew 12:38-40).

In Matthew 12:38-40, we see the Pharisees demanding a sign from Jesus as a proof of His authority. Jesus rebukes them, stating that only an evil and adulterous generation seeks after signs. The only sign He offers them is the sign of Jonah, which illustrates His own death and resurrection. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days, so must the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth. This emphasizes that faith cannot be produced by seeking signs; rather, it is a divinely granted gift that comes through hearing the Word of God, as affirmed in Romans 10:17.
