What does the Bible say about the struggle between the old and new nature in believers?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that believers have two natures—the old sinful nature and the new nature in Christ, leading to an internal struggle.

In Romans 7, the Apostle Paul describes the ongoing battle within believers between the old nature and the new nature. Each believer experiences a conflict where the old man, dominated by sin, contrasts sharply with the new man, which is created by God and desires to obey His law. This internal struggle is evidence of the regenerate heart, demonstrating that the believer truly desires to please God, yet often fails due to the presence of sin. Paul acknowledges that although he delights in God's law, he often finds himself doing the very things he hates because of sin dwelling in him. Such conflict indicates the believer's dual existence, longing for holiness while grappling with their sinful past.
