What does the Bible say about the support of the ministry?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that ministers should be supported by the congregation as they labor in spiritual matters.

The Scriptures indicate that God has ordained that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel. Paul explicitly cites Old Testament principles in his teaching, reminding the Corinthians that just as priests were provided for by the offerings brought to the temple, so too should gospel ministers be supported by the community they minister to. The apostle refers to the principle in 1 Corinthians 9:13-14, stating, 'Do you not know that those who minister about holy things live from the things of the temple? Even so, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.' This shows that the support of the ministry is not merely a financial transaction; it serves as a recognition of the spiritual service offered by those who are called to preach.
