What does the Bible say about the symptoms of sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that symptoms of sin are not the root problem; rather, the underlying issue is unbelief.

In Scripture, symptoms of sin present themselves in various forms, such as self-righteousness or despair, exemplified in characters like the demoniac or Mary Magdalene. However, the true issue lies deeper; the Bible identifies unbelief as the sin that easily entangles us (John 16:9). Instead of merely treating these symptoms, we should seek to address the source of sin, which is our lack of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and the solution to our wretched condition. The balm in Gilead, representing Christ, is what our souls truly need for healing.
