What does the Bible say about the temptation of Christ?

Answered in 16 sources

The Bible teaches that Christ was tempted by the devil in the wilderness but remained sinless, demonstrating His role as our substitute and representative.

In Matthew 4, we see Jesus being led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit, where He is tempted by Satan. This event is significant as it marks the beginning of Jesus' public ministry and showcases His ability to overcome temptation, fulfilling the role of our perfect representative. Unlike Adam, who succumbed to the tempter, Jesus faced the same temptations—lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life—yet did not sin. His triumph over temptation encourages believers to trust in Him as their captain and savior, who battles for us and provides the way of victory in our own temptations.
