What does the Bible say about the two Adams?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible presents the first Adam as the representative of all humanity, whose disobedience brought sin and death, while the second Adam, Jesus Christ, brings righteousness and life.

The concept of the two Adams is clearly articulated in Scripture, particularly in Romans 5. Adam, as the first man, is the federal head of humanity, representing all who descend from him. His disobedience in the Garden of Eden resulted in sin entering the world, which the Apostle Paul states has repercussions for all mankind: 'For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners' (Romans 5:19). In contrast, the second Adam, Jesus Christ, acts as a representative for those whom the Father has given him, ensuring their righteousness through his perfect obedience. The Scripture teaches that 'by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous' (Romans 5:19). This theological framework emphasizes that all of humanity is either in Adam or in Christ, with eternal implications for each individual based upon which representative they belong to.
