What does the Bible say about the war between the flesh and the spirit?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that believers experience a conflict between their sinful nature and the new nature given by the Holy Spirit.

The Scriptures reveal this internal battle vividly, especially in Romans 7:23, where Paul states, "I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." This conflict illustrates the existence of two natures in believers: the old flesh, which is still prone to sin, and the new man, which is created in righteousness through the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5:17, we learn that the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, creating a continual tug-of-war within the believer's heart. This war is a vital aspect of the Christian experience, demonstrating our reliance on Christ and the ongoing need for sanctification.
