What does the Bible say about the will of man?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that the will of man is driven by the desires and inclinations of the mind, revealing a person's true preferences.

The will of man is not self-determining; it is a revelation of what one desires and wants. In Romans 8:7, it states that the flesh is enmity against God and cannot be subject to His law. This inability is not a matter of power, but rather a reflection of the mind's inclination. When it comes to spiritual matters, the natural man is unable to respond positively because spiritual things are considered foolishness to him (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Thus, the will operates based on one's desires, meaning an individual's choices will align with what they truly want, revealing their true inclinations. The will is always governed by what is preferable to the mind at that moment—men choose what they want. Therefore, if a person lacks the inclination to know God, he cannot choose God, illustrating the important relationship between the will and the desires of the heart.
