What does the Bible say about thirst?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible frequently uses thirst as a metaphor for deep spiritual longing and need for God.

In Scripture, thirst often symbolizes a deep spiritual desire or longing for God and His righteousness. For example, in Matthew 5:6, Jesus declares, 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.' This indicates that a spiritual thirst is a conscious absence of something necessary, which in this case is a right relationship with God. Ultimately, this thirst can only be quenched by the presence and grace of Jesus Christ, who offers living water that will satisfy our deepest yearnings (John 4:14).
