What does the Bible say about trials and God's purpose in them?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that God uses trials to prove His people and teach them reliance on Him for salvation.

In Exodus 15:25, the Lord tells the Israelites that He proved them through their trials. This divine testing is not for God to learn about our character, as He already knows all things, but to teach us about ourselves and our need for Him. God places us in situations where we cannot find satisfaction or salvation in our own efforts or the things of this world, pointing us back to Christ, who is our only true source of healing and salvation. Through these trials, we understand that everything outside of God leads to bitterness, reinforcing our need for Him alone.
