What does the Bible say about trials and temptations?

Answered in 12 sources

The Bible distinguishes between trials, which are allowed by God for our spiritual growth, and temptations, which lead to sin and come from our own lusts.

In James 1:12-27, the Bible teaches that trials are a blessing from God, meant to test our faith and develop patience. A man who endures trials is blessed because it shows evidence of God's work in him. Conversely, temptations, as discussed in verse 13, are not from God; instead, they originate from our own sinful desires. Thus, it is crucial to recognize that God does not tempt anyone to sin, and to differentiate between the trials intended for growth and temptations that lead us to ruin.
