What does the Bible say about true and false refuges?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible speaks of two types of refuges: one is a true refuge in Christ, and the other is a refuge of lies that ultimately fails.

In Isaiah 28, the Lord warns against those who create false refuges, trusting in agreements with death and lies. These refuges will collapse when faced with judgment, as highlighted in verses 15-17. Contrasting this, Isaiah 32 describes the true refuge—a man, referring to Christ, who provides protection from storms, trials, and the wrath of God. This distinction emphasizes the need for believers to seek true safety and assurance in Christ rather than in temporary or deceptive means.
