What does the Bible say about trusting in God instead of works?

In Isaiah 30, the Israelites trusted in Egypt for help instead of seeking counsel from God. This reliance on their own understanding and strength is seen as a message of shame and rebellion. God clearly states that such trust is in vain, and that the only hope for salvation is to sit still and trust Him.
