What does the Bible say about understanding and believing in God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible indicates that our problem is not understanding God's truth, but believing it.

The issue of understanding versus believing is a profound one in scripture. Throughout biblical history, individuals such as Pharaoh and the Pharisees understood God's messages yet chose to reject them. The real challenge for humanity lies not in grasping the truths of the faith, but in embracing those truths with belief. As articulated in 1 John 5, understanding comes through the witness of God, and belief is necessitated by acknowledging that witness. Simply put, it is not an absence of comprehension, but a reluctance to surrender to the divine authority of God's word that constitutes the true barrier to faith.
