What does the Bible say about understanding sermons?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible emphasizes the importance of understanding sermons, as merely hearing without comprehension is of no benefit.

In Matthew 13:51-58, Jesus asks His disciples, 'Have you understood all these things?' This highlights the necessity of comprehension in preaching. A sermon serves its purpose only when it reaches the heart and mind of the listener, allowing for the seeds of truth to take root. Many attend church without truly engaging their intellect, leaving services without any spiritual growth or understanding. As believers, we must actively ask ourselves what we learn from sermons to ensure we are not only physically present but spiritually enriched.
