What does the Bible say about who can be pure in heart?

Answered in 1 source

No one can declare themselves pure; only those cleansed by God through Christ can be considered pure in heart.

The Scriptures uniformly declare that no man can purify himself apart from divine intervention. Proverbs 20:9 asks, 'Who can say, I have made my heart clean? I am pure from my sin?' This rhetorical question emphasizes human inability to attain purity through merely external efforts. The answer lies in Christ’s redemptive work; 1 John 1:7 informs us that 'the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.' True purity is bestowed upon those who are regenerated by faith in Jesus, who alone fulfills the requirements of holiness necessary to stand before God.
