What does the Bible say about who does the saving?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that salvation is solely the work of God, according to His purpose and grace, not based on human works. (2 Timothy 1:9)

The Scriptures affirm that salvation is entirely of the Lord. In 2 Timothy 1:9, it is stated that God saved us and called us according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began. This indicates that God's sovereign choice, not human effort, determines who is saved. The entire process of salvation, from election to calling, regeneration, and sanctification, is orchestrated by God alone for His glory.

Furthermore, it is emphasized that our works do not contribute to our salvation. The analogy of a person saved from a burning building illustrates this well: the person saved has no role in their own rescue and thus cannot take credit for it. Similarly, every aspect of salvation is a divine act of grace, highlighting the need for believers to recognize that it is God who saves according to His will and not according to any merit of their own.
