What does the Bible say about who is worthy?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that no one is inherently worthy; rather, those who realize their lostness, sickness, and need for grace are considered worthy.

The concept of worthiness in Scripture is deeply tied to one's recognition of their spiritual state. In Matthew 10:11-15, Jesus instructs his disciples to inquire about those 'who in it is worthy.' This reflects the idea that true worthiness begins with an acknowledgment of one's need for salvation. Those who are lost and recognize their need for healing are the ones who may be deemed worthy. Similarly, as seen in Luke 21:36 and Acts 5:40, it is specifically those who understand their desperate condition in relation to God who are counted worthy. The worthiness mentioned in Scripture is related to God's grace and the individual's recognition of their sin and need for a Savior.
