What does the Bible say about who is worthy?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that no one is worthy in themselves, but those who acknowledge their lostness and sin may be considered worthy by God's grace.

In Matthew 10, Jesus instructs His disciples to inquire who in a city is worthy. This question challenges us to consider our own worthiness in light of God’s holiness. As the preacher highlights, we are all sinners and fall short of God's glory; therefore, in ourselves, we may confidently affirm that we are not worthy. However, those who recognize their spiritual condition—being lost, sick, unclean, and dead in their trespasses—hold a position where they can be deemed worthy because it is God who qualifies them. They are deserving of His peace and salvation, not because of their merit, but because they meet God's requirements of recognizing their lost state and need for a Savior. This underscores the powerful aspect of grace where the Lord declares that He came to save the lost.
